BULPRISA Contest Tips and Tricks

How to ACE the BULPRISA CONTEST
Tips and Tricks on How to Succeed in BULPRISA Competitions
Carl Angelo Mateo Caluag

No one is born skillful. A fisherman is not born a fisherman. At first, he was introduced to fishing. Then, he tries to do it and develops interest at it. He practices it regularly until he masters the skill of fishing. The same goes with one who aspires to be a BulPriSA champion. Winning a BulPriSA contest is not a matter of chance nor luck; winning a BulPriSA contest is a matter of hard work and training.

If you are given a chance to prove your wit, dexterity, and/or strategic skills at BulPriSA, then I’m telling you, you’re already a winner! Your school picked you among all your other schoolmates to compete in a particular event, because your teachers know that your strength and ability in your specialized field of learning is appropriate at the contest. Participating at BulPriSA is a great privilege, and at the same time, a huge responsibility to carry. That explains why most of the competitors get anxious before and during the contest itself. There is this tense and edgy feeling that makes the participant panicky and scared. That is no right way to succeed in BulPriSA. If you’re reading up to this point, then I know you want to identify the proper and correct way in dealing with the prestigious competition. Here are some tips and suggestions that you may follow that may help you ACE the BulPrisa Contest and be a champion:

1.        1. Always trust in God. Your mind and body is directed and given strength by Him. It is a must to understand that everything you can do you owe to God. He is the Master of every known and unknown talent, so learn to rely in Him. Pray every single day for His guidance, pray at the event day, pray at the contest proper itself, and everything will just be a cinch.

2.        2. Change your lifestyle. Reduce your “lakwatcha,” “facebook” and other activities that, unless necessary, aren’t really worth your time. Remember, procrastination is your WORST enemy in BulPriSA. I’m telling you that based on my experience. I advise that you make a daily schedule. Wait, that sounds too formal.  It may do, but it really helps! The common situation is you overwork your mind and/or body, then you take a rest, and you proceed to the “entertainment section” until you lose all your time. That doesn’t sound good, does it? So I suggest you make a regular plan. Include in your schedule prayer time, training time, break time, training time again. Sleep early at about 9 pm, tops. Wake up early. Drink plenty of water. Eat fruits and vegetables. It does not only improve your lifestyle, it would energize your mind and body a lot in training hours.

3.        3. Eliminate your ego. Many fail because they have too much “ego.” It is proven. I suggest you throw away your overconfidence and leave just enough. Be humble all the time. Respect your mentor/s, in word and in action. Come to training session on time. Don’t think that because you have won many contests previously or you have mastered your skills and had the notion that “your brain has absorbed enough information already,” the challenge would be a sure bet. Never, and I mean never, be too bold. Any skills we learn require CONSTANT training.

Before becoming a BulPriSA champion, one has to travail the path of laborious training and challenges. It may sometimes be tiring, but it’s worth every headaches and body aches. In the end, one will realize that acing the BulPriSA contest requires acing your attitude first. God bless, chosen one!

Keep Moving Forward (:

Keep Moving Forward
Carl Angelo Mateo Caluag

I.
The life we have is not to take
We can’t control, nor can we break
So there’s one promise we should make:
It’s “keep moving forward.”

II.
The one I’ve said is good for you
For him, for her, for them; they too
It’s general and it’s brand new
to keep moving forward.

III.
Hard challenges may come and go
Though you hate it, you can’t say no
You may just have to let them flow
and keep moving forward.

IV.
When all your problems you can’t bear
And no one doesn’t seem to care
Remember life is just and fair
Just keep moving forward.

V.
Your reputation’s badly marred
And life gets shameful and so hard
Move on; just let your heart that’s scarred
to keep moving forward.

VI.
When people don’t agree with you
But you know that you’ve told what’s true
Keep speaking up, do not be moved
Just keep moving forward.

VII.
In times of calling and distress
When livelihood is down to less
Never give up! It’s not a mess
Still keep moving forward.

VIII.
When beauty fades and sorrows sprout
Your self-esteem is down and out;
It’s not what life is all about
So keep moving forward.

IX.
And if you think that God does not
care much for you ‘cause He forgot,
Look on His love that doesn't rot
Just keep moving forward.

X.
You see, He has a plan that’s great
For us who have the will to wait
So just have faith, come ye my mate
Let’s keep moving forward.

Fold your neck, hamstrings, etc.

I've exercised this morning!

Through Richard Simmons' Dance Workout, I've manage to do some aerobics for about an hour. Nothing beats the moves and grooves of this dance workout tape!

This is from Sweatin' to the Oldies Volume 2.

Anxiety's boon

HIYAA! Back after a day...

Mom asked me to clean the comfort room this weekend, and that is the most tedious chore for me. Good thing we have such a small CR. While I am waiting for the Hydrochloric acid to clean up the floors and walls thoroughly, let me write something about yesterday.

Being a Third Year High School student in the Philippines, I have a dream that I would pass the Admission Test at the University of the Philippines (it's called UPCAT here) next school year. You see, UP is one of the most prestigious university you can find around here. There are others like Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, just to name a few. But UP would be the best for me because I come from a "not-so-opulent" family. It has a low unit fee, yet maintains its high educational standards. My family and other relatives hope that one day, I could come and enter there not as a visitor, but as a student.

Although I already know my dream university, I still have issues about what course I am gonna take. My mom always dreams of me as an engineer, and so are my cousins. My dad thinks I'm good at English (surprisingly), so Journalism or Mass Communication would be good for me. My grandfather advised me to be a pastor, so that I can be president of our whole church conference. Such big ambitions, so hard to decide.

"Anxiety is contagious," as they say. But on me, anxiety came by itself. What pressures me a lot? I do not understand why many people expect too much from me. But who am I to question? I know that someday, I would end up deciding what's best for me. I just have to pray. After all, I still need to live a life of virtue whatever happens.

To UP! To my future career! To Life!

One to take

"Anxiety is contagious," as they say. But on me, anxiety came by itself. What pressures me a lot? I do not understand why many people expect too much from me. But who am I to question?

It's my first time writing a blog, and for me, it's very historical. I never even thought of writing one since I am not that proficient in making an essay, but I soon found out that it's not about that. It's about expressing my feelings, opinions, and emotions on my laptop screen. It's too fascinating making posts because every single one of them can be filled with so much meaning. Now I'm ready to enter the world of blogging.

LIFE OF VIRTUE. I used this name for my blog because I hope I may instill inspiration to others to be a light to everyone, because we sometimes emulate what other people around us do (somehow). I do not know how can I make posts concerned about this, but I'll see what I can do.

This would serve as my "journal." Maybe not much of a private one, but to let others look upon it, pleasure would be mine to cherish.

Hi fellow blogmates and people out there! Hope you can pass by and have a glimpse. Cheerio!

P.S. That italicized paragraph in the beginning? That would serve as my baseline on my next post. :)

Peace. Hope. Love.
